요약문
The papers published in this volume were presented and extensively discussed at the conference coorganized by the Institute of East and West Studies of Yonsei University and the Korea Economic Research Institute. Economic Survival today is no longer a matter to be determined within a nation's boundary and, of course, Korea is no exception in this global trend of competition. While large enterprises in Korea are keeping apace of the increasingly competitive environment by streamlining their operations, medium and small enterprises who have not yet undergone adjustments are facing difficulties. In the past, much of the growth of these large enterprises has been derived from various government subsidies along with a tendency to imitate foreign advanced technology rather that cultivate their own. At the same time, there has been a fundamental paradigm-shift from supplier-oriented to consumer-oriented, which threatens the survival of the past mode od development achieved in diversified mansgement. Today, only unique technology and unique products can prevail inthis borderless world economy. With the launch of the WTO, national boundaries have become less visible while competition has prompted commercialization of basic technology. No one enterprise can play a dominant role without cooperation and strategic alliance with others. It is in such a context that this research sets out to develop a future stratagem with which Korean enterprises can effectively meet the demands of the present business evvironment, especially in terms of globalization and localization.
